Are you sure you are taking good care of your most valuable cargo?
That's the question to parents as they load up the car and head out on summer expeditions with excited children who expect to arrive safe and sound. In 2006 child seats in cars became compulsory, but children travelling in cars still account for 42% of Norfolk's child road crash victims. Many of these injuries could be avoided if child seats and restraints were correctly used.
Fortunately, there's any easy way for parents to make sure their children are as safe as possible in their car, because Norfolk County Council's Road Safety team and Fire & Rescue officers are out and about running child seat checking events, starting in north Norfolk and Norwich in August.
Road safety officer Richard Wiseman said: "Last year in north Norfolk more than one in four (28%) of the seats we checked had been incorrectly fitted. Alarming as this is, it's a big improvement on the previous year. Good news but there's a long way to go."
