RICHMOND, VA— Following a deadly Henrico County vehicle accident where an infant was ejected from a car, the AAA Mid-Atlantic is highlighting the importance of properly restraining children in vehicles.
Two people were killed, two people were injured and a one-year-old toddler was ejected from a car during a deadly vehicle accident on N. Laburnum Ave. Monday evening.
Thomas Oppermann, suffered life-threatening injuries after he was thrown from a car during the wreck. Police aren't saying if the toddler was buckled in a car seat, but statistics show car seats save lives.
The National highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports approximately 9,000 lives have been saved from 1975 to 2008 as a result of properly using child safety seats.
It's a number that could be higher, according to some.
"Three out of four car seats are installed incorrectly," said AAA spokesperson Windy Van Curen.
